Pigmentation Treatment in Gurgaon

Melasma, post-acne marks, sun damage, and uneven tone can look similar while behaving very differently. Durable improvement starts with knowing which pigment you are treating.

Dr. Akanksha Agarwal’s approach is built for Indian skin: diagnose the type, identify the trigger, clear existing pigment, regulate the pathway, and plan maintenance from the start.

Treat the pathway, not only the patch.

Pigment depth, inflammation, hormones, UV and heat exposure, and barrier health all influence the plan. Clearing visible melanin is only one phase; regulation and maintenance determine whether the improvement can remain stable.

Types of pigmentation we treat

Dark patches can look similar while behaving very differently. The pattern, depth, trigger, and skin response determine the treatment pathway.

01

Melasma

The most common and most stubborn form. Appears as symmetrical brown or grey-brown patches across the cheeks, forehead, upper lip, and bridge of the nose. Driven by hormonal factors (pregnancy, oral contraceptives, thyroid imbalance) and worsened by UV and heat exposure. Melasma is a chronic condition that requires ongoing management, not a one-time fix.

02

Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH)

Dark marks left behind after acne, injuries, burns, or aggressive skin treatments. Extremely common in Indian skin because higher melanin levels make the skin more reactive to inflammation. PIH usually fades with time, but proper treatment accelerates resolution from months to weeks.

03

Sun damage and photoageing

Brown spots, uneven tone, and textural changes caused by cumulative UV exposure. Gurgaon’s environment compounds this: pollution generates oxidative stress that triggers melanin production independently of sunlight, which is why pigmentation worsens even during winter months.

04

Hormonal pigmentation

Darkening triggered by hormonal changes (pregnancy, menopause, PCOS, medication-related). Often overlaps with melasma. Treating the pigmentation without addressing the hormonal trigger produces temporary results at best.

A four-phase protocol

Our approach: diagnose, clear, regulate, maintain

Every pigmentation protocol at Centre for Aesthetics follows the same four-phase logic.

01

Diagnose

Not all dark patches are the same. Dr. Akanksha assesses the pigmentation type, depth (epidermal vs dermal), triggers (hormonal, UV, inflammatory), and your skin’s current barrier health. Treatment without diagnosis is guessing.

02

Clear

Remove the existing pigment deposits using the right tool for the type and depth. This might be Cosmelan (for melasma and deep pigmentation), medical-grade chemical peels (for surface pigment and PIH), laser toning (for targeted deep deposits), or a combination.

03

Regulate

This is the phase most clinics skip and the reason pigmentation comes back. Using tyrosinase-inhibiting protocols (Cosmelan 2 maintenance, prescription topicals containing tranexamic acid, niacinamide, or arbutin), we keep the melanin production pathway suppressed for months after the clearing phase. Without regulation, the melanocytes simply reproduce what was removed.

04

Maintain

Long-term skincare (pigment-stabilising actives, broad-spectrum SPF 50), periodic maintenance peels or HydraFacial sessions, and ongoing monitoring. Pigmentation management is a lifestyle, not a one-time treatment. Patients who understand this achieve the best long-term results.

Melanin-rich skin

Pigmentation treatment and Indian skin

The same melanin that makes Indian skin more prone to pigmentation can also make it more reactive to aggressive treatment.

Indian skin (Fitzpatrick IV to V) presents a paradox: the same melanin that makes Indian skin more prone to pigmentation also makes it more prone to post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation from the treatments meant to fix it. This means aggressive laser, deep peels, or high-concentration chemical agents applied without proper skin preparation can make pigmentation worse, not better.

Dr. Akanksha’s protocols are built specifically for this reality. Every treatment is preceded by a skin-prep phase (barrier stabilisation, pigment-stabilising topicals). Every in-clinic session uses conservative parameters calibrated for melanin-rich skin. And every post-treatment protocol includes PIH-prevention measures.

This conservative, layered approach takes longer than the “pigmentation gone in 3 sessions” promise you’ll see elsewhere. But it works without creating new problems.

Why Centre for Aesthetics

Why Centre for Aesthetics for pigmentation

Dr. Akanksha is one of the few medical aestheticians in Gurgaon trained specifically in Cosmelan protocol adaptation for Indian skin types. Her approach is conservative and layered: she starts with skin preparation, treats at calibrated intensity, and follows through with a 6-month regulation programme that addresses the melanin pathway, not just the melanin deposits.

She also has the advantage of working alongside Dr. Ritesh Anand (MCh Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery), which means complex pigmentation cases that involve structural concerns (acne scarring with PIH, post-surgical hyperpigmentation) benefit from dual-specialist assessment without referral to an external clinic.

  • Skin preparation before active treatment
  • Conservative parameters for Indian skin
  • Regulation and maintenance after clearing
  • Dual-specialist input for complex concerns

Frequently asked questions

Clear answers about pigmentation treatment

Recurrence, timing, laser safety, sun exposure, and choosing the right treatment—without pretending every dark patch needs the same solution.

Can pigmentation be permanently removed?

PIH and sun damage can be significantly reduced and, in many cases, resolved. Melasma is a chronic condition that can be managed to the point of near-invisibility, but it doesn’t have a permanent cure. With proper regulation and maintenance, most patients achieve stable, even-toned skin that stays clear for months to years.

How long before I see results?

Results are typically visible within 1 to 8 weeks, depending on the product used, the severity and depth of pigmentation, and how consistently the at-home protocol is followed. Surface-level brightening may appear earlier, while deeper pigmentation such as melasma or dermal pigment can require sustained treatment and regulation.

Why did my pigmentation come back after treatment at another clinic?

Almost always because the treatment addressed the symptom (existing melanin) without regulating the cause (tyrosinase overactivity). Removing pigment without suppressing the production pathway is like mopping water without turning off the tap. Our approach includes a regulation phase specifically designed to prevent this.

Is laser safe for Indian skin pigmentation?

Certain lasers, at appropriate settings, are safe and effective for Indian skin. But the margin for error is narrow. Laser at the wrong settings on melanin-rich skin triggers PIH, which can be harder to treat than the original pigmentation. This is why Dr. Akanksha prefers Cosmelan and medical peels as first-line treatments for most Indian skin pigmentation, reserving laser for specific cases where it offers clear benefit.

Do I need to stop going in the sun?

You don’t need to become a hermit, but you do need to be disciplined about sun protection. SPF 50 broad-spectrum sunscreen, reapplied every 3 to 4 hours, is non-negotiable during and after pigmentation treatment. A single unprotected sun exposure can reactivate the melanin pathway and undo weeks of progress.

What’s the best pigmentation treatment in Gurgaon?

It depends on the type. Melasma responds best to Cosmelan. PIH responds well to peels and microneedling. Sun damage responds to laser toning and peels. The “best” treatment is the one matched to your specific diagnosis, which is why the assessment comes first.
