HydraFacial + JLO BEAUTY Booster: What It Actually Does

By Dr. Akanksha Agarwal, Medical Aesthetician & Founder, Centre for Aesthetics

Why I’m Particular About Which Facials We Offer at Centre for Aesthetics

I could offer twenty different facials. Every skincare brand has a protocol they’d love us to stock. And the truth is, most of them are fine. Pleasant. Relaxing. They leave your skin feeling soft for a day or two and then the effect fades.

At Centre for Aesthetics (CFA), I’m not interested in offering treatments that are just “fine.” Every treatment on our menu has to earn its place by doing something measurable for the skin, not just something that feels nice during the session. That’s why we carry HydraFacial and why I was particular about adding the JLO BEAUTY® Booster to our protocol.

HydraFacial isn’t a luxury facial. It’s a medical-grade skin resurfacing and infusion platform. The distinction matters, because it changes what the treatment can actually accomplish versus what a traditional facial can. And the JLO BEAUTY® Booster adds a specific layer of targeted ingredients that push the hydration and radiance results meaningfully further than a standard HydraFacial alone.

But I also want to be clear about what it doesn’t do, because the marketing around this treatment has created expectations that no single session can meet. This blog is my honest take as a medical aesthetician on where HydraFacial with the JLO Booster fits, who benefits most, and when you need something else entirely.

What a HydraFacial Actually Is (And Isn’t)

A HydraFacial is a device-led treatment that works in three stages, all performed using a patented vortex-fusion handpiece:

Stage 1: Cleanse + Exfoliate. A spiral tip gently resurfaces the skin, loosening dead cells, sebum, and debris from the surface and within the pores. This is physical exfoliation, but gentler and more controlled than microdermabrasion because the suction simultaneously removes what it dislodges rather than leaving it on the skin.

Stage 2: Extract + Hydrate. Painless vortex suction extracts blackheads, whiteheads, and congested pores while simultaneously infusing the skin with hydrating serums. This is the step most patients notice immediately. The suction pulls out what’s clogging your pores, and the hydrating solution floods the now-clean pore channels.

Stage 3: Fuse + Protect. Antioxidants, peptides, and targeted booster serums are delivered deep into the skin while it’s freshly exfoliated and maximally absorbent. This is where the JLO BEAUTY® Booster is infused, and it’s also the step where product quality matters most. What you put into freshly resurfaced skin determines whether the result lasts hours or days.

What HydraFacial is: A medical-grade cleansing, extraction, and infusion platform. It genuinely removes congestion, delivers active ingredients deeper than topical application alone can, and produces an immediate, visible improvement in hydration, texture, and luminosity. The results are real, not just “post-facial glow that fades by dinner.”

What HydraFacial is not: It’s not a treatment for deep acne scars, significant pigmentation, wrinkles, or structural skin problems. It works on the surface and superficial layers. It cannot replace chemical peels, microneedling, or laser for those concerns. Expecting it to is how people end up disappointed and concluding that “facials don’t work.” They work perfectly well for what they’re designed to do. The problem is when they’re sold as solutions for problems they can’t reach.

The JLO BEAUTY® Booster: Breaking Down the Ingredients

This is the section where I want to get past the celebrity branding and talk about what’s actually in the booster and why I think it’s worth using.

The JLO BEAUTY® Booster is a quadruple-active formula infused during Stage 3 of the HydraFacial, when the skin is freshly exfoliated and maximally receptive. Here’s what each component actually does:

Olive Leaf Extract

A potent antioxidant that helps defend against oxidative damage from UV exposure and pollution. In the context of Indian skin living in Gurgaon (where pollution levels are among the highest in the world), antioxidant protection isn’t a luxury. It’s damage limitation. Olive leaf extract also supports hydration at the cellular level, helping the skin retain moisture more effectively rather than just sitting on the surface.

Proprietary Hydracomplex (Rice Bran Extract + Polyglutamic Acid + Hyaluronic Acid)

This is the core of the booster’s hydration delivery. Hyaluronic acid is familiar to most people: it attracts and holds water in the skin. Polyglutamic acid is less well known but arguably more interesting. It’s a larger molecule than hyaluronic acid, and it forms a moisture-retaining film on the skin surface while simultaneously boosting the skin’s own natural hyaluronic acid production. The combination of the two creates hydration at multiple depths. Rice bran extract adds a brightening and antioxidant layer, which is particularly relevant for Indian skin tones where dullness from environmental exposure is a constant concern.

Fermented Adaptogen Blend (Snow Mushroom + Beetroot + Tiger Grass)

Fermentation increases the bioavailability of active ingredients, meaning the skin absorbs more of what’s being delivered. Snow mushroom (Tremella fuciformis) is another powerful humectant, often compared to hyaluronic acid but with a smaller molecular structure that allows deeper penetration. Beetroot extract supports circulation and adds a brightening effect. Tiger grass (Centella Asiatica) is a proven skin-calming agent that supports barrier repair and reduces inflammation. For skin that’s been dealing with pollution, stress, or post-procedure sensitivity, tiger grass is genuinely therapeutic, not just a trendy ingredient.

Niacinamide (Vitamin B3)

One of my favourite ingredients in clinical skincare, and it’s the anchor of the JLO Booster for good reason. Niacinamide strengthens the skin barrier, improves moisture retention, reduces the appearance of enlarged pores, and helps even out skin tone. It also has anti-inflammatory properties that make it safe and effective for virtually every skin type, including sensitive and acne-prone Indian skin. When delivered through HydraFacial’s vortex-fusion system into freshly exfoliated skin, the penetration and bioavailability of niacinamide is significantly better than what you’d get from a topical serum applied at home.

When I look at this ingredient list as a medical aesthetician, what I see is a booster that’s been formulated to do three things well: hydrate deeply (Hydracomplex + snow mushroom), protect against environmental damage (olive leaf + niacinamide), and calm the skin while enhancing radiance (tiger grass + beetroot + rice bran). It’s not trying to treat acne or erase wrinkles or fix pigmentation. It’s doing what a well-designed glow treatment should do, and it’s doing it with ingredients that have genuine clinical support behind them.

Who Genuinely Benefits from This Treatment

I recommend the HydraFacial + JLO BEAUTY® Booster for a specific set of patients. Not everyone, but the people in this list tend to see the most meaningful results:

The dehydrated professional. You work in an air-conditioned office in Cyber City or DLF. Your skin is constantly exposed to recycled, moisture-stripped air. You drink water but your skin still looks dull, tired, and tight by 4pm. The deep hydration infusion from this treatment addresses exactly that. You walk out looking noticeably plumper and more luminous, and the effect lasts several days rather than wearing off by evening.

The pre-event patient. A wedding, an engagement, a corporate event, a photoshoot. You want your skin to look its absolute best on a specific date. HydraFacial with the JLO Booster is one of the best same-day glow treatments available because there’s zero downtime, no redness, and the immediate result is genuine radiance that photographs beautifully. I recommend scheduling the session 1 to 3 days before the event. More on this in the Pre-Event Protocol section below.

The maintenance patient. You’re already on a broader skin treatment plan (peels, microneedling, or a post-procedure maintenance phase) and you want a treatment between your active sessions that keeps the skin clean, hydrated, and glowing without interfering with your ongoing protocol. HydraFacial fits perfectly in this role because it’s non-invasive enough to sit between more aggressive treatments without disrupting healing or pigment management.

The first-timer. If you’ve never had a professional skin treatment before and you’re not sure where to start, HydraFacial is an excellent entry point. It’s comfortable, it’s quick (roughly 30 to 45 minutes), there’s no pain and no downtime, and the results are visible immediately. It’s also a good way for me to see how your skin responds to professional treatment before recommending anything more intensive.

Who Needs Something Stronger (An Honest Conversation)

This is the section that most HydraFacial blogs won’t include, but I think it’s the most important one.

If your primary concern is any of the following, HydraFacial is not the answer. It can be part of the support system, but it’s not the lead treatment:

Active acne. HydraFacial can decongest pores and calm surface-level breakouts, but it won’t treat the hormonal, bacterial, or inflammatory roots of persistent acne. For that, you need a proper acne treatment protocol. I sometimes use HydraFacial as a gentle maintenance step between active acne treatments, but never as the primary intervention.

Acne scars (pitted or textural). The HydraFacial works on the surface. Acne scars live deeper. Ice pick, boxcar, and rolling scars need collagen-remodelling treatments like microneedling, fractional laser, or subcision. No amount of hydration infusion will fill a structural depression in the skin.

Melasma or deep pigmentation. HydraFacial can improve surface-level dullness and uneven tone, but it cannot treat melanin that sits deep in the dermis. Melasma, in particular, requires a careful, layered approach with medical-grade peels, pigment-targeted actives, and strict sun protection. Our anti-pigmentation pathway is designed for this.

Significant signs of ageing. Wrinkles, volume loss, and skin laxity need collagen-stimulating treatments (peels, microneedling, PDRN, exosomes) or structural interventions (fillers, threads). HydraFacial makes ageing skin look fresher temporarily, but it doesn’t address the underlying structural loss. Our anti-ageing treatment approach covers the full spectrum.

Being honest about these boundaries doesn’t diminish the HydraFacial. It actually protects it. When I recommend a HydraFacial with the JLO Booster, the patient knows I’m recommending it because it’s genuinely the right treatment for their concern, not because it’s the only thing on the menu.

HydraFacial on Indian Skin: What I’ve Observed

Indian skin (Fitzpatrick Type IV to V) responds well to HydraFacial for a simple reason: the treatment is hydration-first, not aggression-first. There’s no thermal energy, no chemical burn risk, and no downtime. The exfoliation is mechanical but gentle, and the infusion is soothing rather than irritating.

In my experience across hundreds of sessions at CFA, the specific benefits for Indian skin include:

Improved radiance on chronically dull skin. Gurgaon’s pollution levels, combined with hard water exposure and air-conditioned environments, create a cycle of surface dullness that even good homecare can’t fully address. The HydraFacial’s exfoliation and infusion combination breaks that cycle more effectively than any facial cleanser or mask.

Pore decongestion without PIH risk. Manual extractions on Indian skin carry a real risk of post-inflammatory marks. The HydraFacial’s vortex suction extracts blackheads and congestion without squeezing, pressing, or causing the micro-trauma that triggers pigmentation. For patients who are prone to marking easily, this is a significant advantage.

The niacinamide effect. Because the JLO Booster contains niacinamide delivered directly into freshly exfoliated skin, patients with uneven skin tone or early pigmentation often notice a subtle brightening effect that lasts beyond the initial session. Niacinamide is one of the few ingredients that genuinely works well across all Indian skin types without causing sensitivity.

One caveat: if you’re currently using active topicals (retinoids, prescription-strength exfoliants), I adjust the HydraFacial protocol accordingly. Layering exfoliation from the device on top of already-sensitised skin can cause unnecessary irritation. This is exactly why having a medical aesthetician assess your current routine before the session matters.

How I Use HydraFacial Inside Bigger Treatment Plans

This is where CFA’s approach differs from most clinics that offer HydraFacial as a standalone service.

For many of my patients, HydraFacial isn’t the treatment plan. It’s a supporting player inside a larger one. Here’s how I integrate it:

As a prep session before chemical peels. Running a HydraFacial 5 to 7 days before a medical peel clears the skin surface of dead cells and congestion, allowing the peel acids to penetrate more evenly and work more effectively. The result is a better peel outcome with more uniform exfoliation. I detail my peel protocols in a separate blog, but the HydraFacial prep step is a routine part of the process.

As a maintenance treatment between microneedling sessions. Microneedling sessions are typically spaced 3 to 4 weeks apart. In between, the skin benefits from gentle hydration and decongestion without anything that triggers collagen induction. HydraFacial fills this gap perfectly. It keeps the skin clean and hydrated without interfering with the collagen-remodelling timeline.

As a recovery support after laser. Once the skin has healed from a fractional laser session (usually 2 to 3 weeks post-procedure), a gentle HydraFacial helps restore hydration and surface comfort to skin that’s been through controlled thermal injury. The JLO Booster’s tiger grass and niacinamide components are particularly useful here for calming and barrier repair.

As a standalone monthly maintenance. For patients who don’t have active skin concerns but want to keep their skin clean, hydrated, and glowing, a monthly HydraFacial with the JLO Booster is a simple, effective protocol. It’s the equivalent of a regular service for your skin: not urgent, but consistently beneficial.

The Pre-Event Protocol

This is one of the most practical uses for HydraFacial + JLO BEAUTY® Booster, and it’s the context where the “JLO Glow” branding genuinely delivers on its promise.

If you have a wedding, engagement, corporate event, or any occasion where you want your skin to look its absolute best:

Ideal timing: 1 to 3 days before the event. This gives the hydration time to settle into the skin and the post-treatment luminosity to reach its peak. On the day of the event, your skin will look naturally radiant, plump, and smooth. Makeup sits better on well-hydrated, freshly exfoliated skin, which is a practical bonus that matters.

For brides and grooms: I typically recommend a series of 3 to 4 HydraFacial sessions in the 6 to 8 weeks leading up to the wedding, with the final session 2 to 3 days before the main event. This builds cumulative improvement in skin texture and clarity, with the JLO Booster delivering peak radiance for the day itself. Our pre-bridal skincare programme incorporates this alongside other targeted treatments.

Pair with: For patients who want the absolute maximum glow, I sometimes combine the HydraFacial with a light Vampire Facial or exosome infusion session a week before, followed by the HydraFacial + JLO Booster closer to the event. The deeper treatment builds collagen and skin quality; the HydraFacial polishes the surface. Different depths, complementary results.

HydraFacial vs. Medical Peels vs. Medifacials: How to Choose

Patients frequently ask me how HydraFacial compares to the other facial treatments at CFA. Here’s the honest breakdown:

HydraFacial (with JLO Booster): Cleansing + extraction + hydration infusion. Zero downtime. Immediate glow. Best for: congestion, dehydration, pre-event prep, maintenance between active treatments. Does not address deep pigmentation, scarring, or significant ageing.

Medical chemical peels: Controlled acid exfoliation that penetrates deeper than HydraFacial. Treats pigmentation, acne, texture, and stimulates collagen. Involves 1 to 3 days of mild peeling and downtime. More potent than HydraFacial but requires recovery. My peel protocols are customised by acid type, concentration, and number of coats.

Medifacials: Doctor-led facials using medical-grade products, LED therapy, and targeted serums. Sit between a standard facial and a clinical treatment. Good for patients who want more than a HydraFacial but aren’t ready for peels or needling.

They’re not competitors. They sit at different points on the intensity spectrum. The right choice depends on your skin’s current state, your concerns, and what your calendar allows in terms of downtime.

HydraFacial Cost at CFA Gurgaon

HydraFacial pricing varies based on the protocol and which booster is included. At CFA:

Standard HydraFacial (3-step cleanse, extract, hydrate with standard serums) is our baseline treatment.

HydraFacial + JLO BEAUTY® Booster adds the quadruple-active booster infusion at Stage 3 for enhanced radiance, hydration, and skin barrier support. This is a premium add-on and the protocol I recommend most frequently for the patients described in this blog.

Package pricing is available for patients who want a series (typically 3, 4, or 6 sessions). Pre-bridal packages include the HydraFacial series as part of a broader protocol.

Your consultation includes a skin assessment where I’ll recommend which HydraFacial protocol (and which booster, if any) is right for your specific skin. Book here.

Frequently Asked Questions

How often should I get a HydraFacial?

For maintenance, once a month is ideal. For pre-event prep, a series of 3 to 4 sessions over 6 to 8 weeks builds cumulative results. If you’re using HydraFacial between more active treatments (peels, microneedling), the frequency is determined by your overall protocol.

Can I wear makeup after a HydraFacial?

Technically yes, but I recommend letting your skin breathe for at least 6 to 8 hours after the session. The whole point is that you’ve just infused your skin with active ingredients through freshly opened pores. Piling makeup on top immediately reduces the absorption window. Most patients find they don’t want makeup after the treatment because their skin looks good enough without it.

Is HydraFacial worth it compared to a regular facial?

If by “regular facial” you mean a salon facial with manual extraction and a sheet mask, the difference is significant. HydraFacial’s device-driven extraction is more thorough and less traumatic. The serum infusion penetrates deeper. And the results are more consistent because the device standardises what the human hand cannot. Whether it’s worth the price difference depends on what your skin actually needs.

What’s the difference between the JLO BEAUTY® Booster and other HydraFacial boosters?

Each booster targets a different concern. The JLO Booster is formulated specifically for radiance, hydration, and environmental protection. Other boosters in the HydraFacial range target concerns like fine lines (peptide-based), acne (salicylic acid-based), or brightening (vitamin C-based). I choose the booster based on what your skin needs at that session, not based on brand recognition.

I have sensitive skin. Can I still get this treatment?

HydraFacial is one of the gentlest professional treatments available. The JLO Booster’s niacinamide and tiger grass components are both calming and anti-inflammatory, making it well-suited for sensitive skin. That said, I always assess your skin and current product regimen before the session to ensure there’s no conflict.

Your Next Step

If you’re curious about what a HydraFacial with the JLO BEAUTY® Booster can do for your skin specifically, the answer is a conversation, not a guess.

During your visit at CFA, I’ll assess your skin type, current routine, and what you’re hoping to achieve. If HydraFacial is the right fit, I’ll tell you. If your skin needs something deeper first, I’ll tell you that too. The treatment should match the concern, not the other way around.
